Ok i know this is a widely discussed question but can frontosa's be bred in a 90 gallon tank? it is standard foot print i read some people saying no and then others say yes please can some one help me out here?
I've bred fronts in a 125g. Could they breed in a 90? Probably, but it will be more difficult.
The advantages of a 125g are the disadvantages of a 90g, ability to increase numbers of fronts(disperse aggression), more space to hide, breed and claim as territories, better water stability.
A pet store in my area bred fronts in a 40br. They know this won't work for long. There is about 8 in there I think. They also have a group in a 125 that is alot bigger and with less luck then the 40br.
omg I wouldn't do anything less than a 125gal. I also had a not so fun experience. I had to put 16 (14 fronts) fish in a 30something tank - larger than a 30gal and not standard it was the same length/width of a 55gal but half the height. It was the most nerve racking thing ever, I was constantly doing water changes. This was not by choice though - my 150gal tank crashed (as in spiked really bad) for some reason, so I had to pull everyone out if I didn't want to lose them. It was not fun. I keep my colony of 12 frontosa in a 150gal now along with 2 other fish.
As for a 90gal I know someone who bred a pair in a 90gal but nothing more than that. You would need an established pair though. I don't think I would even try it if you had put a bunch in their in order to weed out your male and female.
