im looking for something to feed my oscars. i have heard ghost shrimp from time to time and something about gut loading i think it was????? what does that mean???

anyways im looking for something that reproduces quickly and easily that i could feed my oscars.

these shrimp or any that would suit my needs

also what kinda of set up would i need to house them for growth and reproduction??

I don't think Ghost Shrimp would be the best idea, since although they live in Freshwater they actually need Brackish to breed / for their eggs to hatch...

If you really must breed your own shrimp, Marble Crays is probably your best bet if you can get your hands on some since they breed asexually so you don't need to worry about getting a mating pair since they just clone themselves...

yea, i keep hearing how feeder fish are not the best and that invertebrates would be better. less parasites and well i was thinking i could throw extra in at a time and maybe they would do a little clean up before they are eatin in the food chain. feeder fish only work as food as to where invertebrates could also be beneficial to clean up to a degree.

i would love to have a big crab in there that they would not mess with for clean up but i know the oscars would never leave it alone.

any info on what kind of set up i would need for the marble??

yeah, feeder fish don't have much nutritional value and, like you said, typically are very diseased and not good for your water quality, either [goldfish are like the worst water polluters]. and again, yes, they could help clean up a little if you keep extra in there. nothing eats poo though, so it would really only be cleaning up excess food and stuff. and, again again, yeah, the oscars would definitely not allow a crab to live in there long-term. lol. i had some ghost shrimp in with my oscar, and while he was still not quite fast enough to catch them when he was little, he still chased them endlessly, trying his best to eat them. lol :] i love oscars

oscars are great.

from the research i have done so far, i need more than my 10 gal for the marble. i could get a bigger rubermaid bin or something. what kind of habbitate would i need for them to thrive and reproduce?? how long do they take to grow??

o and a question about the poo, i had a fidler crab that would go by the drift wood where the pleco would eat and eat that poo from the pleco. i would sit there and watch him eat it, cleaning up the corner. i never saw him eat fish poo but at the time i had some africas and well its not like they had big things of poo everywhere. is that uncommon??? if so nothing eats poo??
