My black moors have done it twice now. Not exactly sure what I did to help. Check out my post "Who's the daddy?" for more info.
Having loads in a large pond works quite well. Few of dozen + 8 years = give up counting at 1400!

BUT you should make your fish breed naturally first, then after some time, just scoop up the female and hand strip her. Do the same with males.
If you don't, the feamle may suffer from ovary injuries and die due to the presence of lots of eggs inside.
