so i bought a dozen feeder guppies few weeks ago, and little did i know that one or two were prego.... woke up one day to find 8 little babies and they are growing like crazy fast in the 10g they are in.... now im thinking of trying to just leave them and let them breed... is there anything special i have to do to breed them, how do i tell M and F apart ... and there is a 10g tank with a 5-15g HOB filter but have a sponge filter i ordered for it which should be here by tuesday, what can or should i do to get em to breed how often do i need to do water changes on the small tank and how much % wise ?

any help would be great thanks

Guppy's are super easy to breed. Just keep them fed well, do a 5 percent water change every week. The females will have a black gravid spot near their vent area. The males have a lot more color and are easy to spot , because they are always wanting to breed. You may want to go to one of the guppy forums on the net, as I think you will get more info from there. As most of us here use them as feeders, and so are not as excited as you. They are great fish especially if you get into the show quality fish.Whenever our fish breed, it is very exciting no matter what type of fish they may be.

well im only breeding them for live food lmao :) i guess since there only like 1/4" or so they are too tiny to tell M and F apart then eh

You have already done the hard part when it comes to breeding guppies. Putting a male and female in water.

female guppies are usually bigger and have less color than males. you can tell when the smaller colorful males chase the female around. Guppies will breed in just about anything

actually i bought 12 for live feeders for my gar, and then i noticed like 7 or 8 babies in the tank.... and thats all thats left so im unsure of what is what in the tank there now ....

Here's a picture showing the difference in male and female guppies. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Guppy-Male-and-Female.JPGThe male is on the left and the female is on the right. Notice the male's anal fin is modified into a tubular reproductive organ (called a gonopodium) whereas the female has a normal shaped anal fin.
Also here's a picture of another male that shows this a little better:

If you want a bunch of fry to survive without having a separate tank for them, you can add floating plants, live or fake, for them to hide in until they are big enough to not get eaten. Hornwort works great for this if you can get a hold of some for a good price, it's usually cheap.

yea ive heard of ppl using floating plants for em to hide and such, hopefully the babies i have there males and females and hope they breed like SOB's lol :)
