ok so i have an empty 10 gallon and i want to breed fancy guppies for my cichlids, and i dont know a whole lot about bredding them just that they are live bearers. what kind of male to female ratio should i have and when a female is pregnant do i need one of those cages that float for them.

i basically need a crash course in guppy breeding

u should of wrote this in the breeding forum. guppies take a longer time to multiply then alot of other feeder fish, i.e. convicts. if u want feeders go with convicts or something else.

i have a 29 gallon.... some floating live plants.. and started off with 2 males and 4 females.... now i have over 100 fry.... I gave a load of them to my dad for his koi pond.... not hard... but they do "grow" a little slower than convicts.. but i like them... you can try the cage.. i never had luck with those.. just get some good floating plants even if they are fake... Good Luck

I have a 29g with guppies and butterfly splitfins. It's just a bare tank with tons of floating plants for the babies to hide in and they eat them. I buy a bulk high protien flake food for $12 for about 6 months worth and a $12 hydro sponge. Lots of small WC's almost daily and keep the flakes constant and you will have tons of them in no time.

Male guppy+female guppy (or guppies)+water=lots of babies. Add a lot of hornwort for them to hide in, and the babies will probably do even better. I'd just get a couple males and then 3+ females per male
