Breeding guppies

Hey guys I have 10 female guppies about 15 days till and i was wondering if i could get a couple of BIG rubber maid tubs filter them and put the babies in there because my females are 1-2 years and will have 60 or more babies and I can not fit any more nets in my tank and 1000 baby guppies are little much for 20 gal. So HELP.

also i will get 40 gallon tubs with homemade filters at 160 gal. hour :)
 
big rubber maid tubs work ive done this just dont fill them all the way if u want even more babys raise your temp to 80-82. but this is exactly what i did for years just make sure you have some plants for the babys you lie i covered mine in java moss for 2 reasons it was the best stuff i could find, and i knew a guy that always needed feeder guppies so we traded often. when u have small babies try you get the larger ones out because they will eat so just transfer them when they get larger.

as said yes this will work.

but you realise your just magnifying the problem later, what are you gonna do when you have 50,000 babies in 40 gallon tubs?


you probably not gonna like this suggestion, but get some fish to eat the babies. i fell in to the guppy breeding trap too. they just have to many babies to save them all.
 
Hi i started breeding guppies a week ago i have 2 females and 1 males im just wondering when will they have their first Fry?:nilly:
 
If they're preg. they usually take a little less than a month to have the fry. About a week in (i think) they get a black spot close to their stomache, this is a good indicator to know if they're preg.

I'm not too sure about that. Usually for the guppy, platy, sword tank i have i let the fry in the normal tank, and every month i have 3 to 10 new fish.
 
Expect an average of 10 or so babies per mommy. More or less is perfectly realistic; keep in mind the fry are subject to cannibalism from their elders.
 
Although they are eaten by their elders and other fish in the tank, I think this is best because, if not, we would have 10000000 guppies in no time.
