Has anyone had any luck with breeding Steveni "Taiwan Reef" or N. Venustus?
The tank is 125g, I recently bought 4x Steveni "Taiwan Reef" (1M 3F), male is 4" and females 3", and 4x Venustus, most likely 2 males and 2 females, but hard to tell as they are 2-3", could be 1 male and 3 females if I'm lucky. Time will tell.

The Venustus grow much faster than the Steveni, do you think I will have problems with crossbreeding? I've read the alpha male in the tank may breed with any female in the tank that is ready to breed. Do you think I will have that problem with these two species?

Any tips would be accepted.

No. They will be fine :) Venustus "can" be a tad nasty and taiwan reef's can be a tad placid so I would watch for signs of over aggression but they should be ok and they won't crossbreed.

I think your Taiwan reef are close to breeding size/age. They usually are relatively easy to breed, maybe a few extra water changes. If they aren't breeding after a couple months, you may need to take the Venustus out of the tank.

The Venustus probably need some maturing before they are breeding size. Anything showing hints of male coloration at that size is almost 100% of being male.

Thanks, the male venestus already shows great potential, I'll make. Thread about the tank soon.

Be careful, once the venustus start breeding it's absolute craziness. I have 3f and 1m and once again all 3f are holding. Yesterday I got rid of a tank of 50+ juveniles and there are another 45+ fry being grown out. 1 female is ready to spit any minute. I put the male in my buccochromis tank as a fishy time out, so I had to unload 14 buccochromis because it was getting extremely over crowded. Longer story short, have lots of tanks. On a positive note the fry are soooo cute.

IMO when breeding haps or peacocks it is best to do species only tanks as males tend to only tolerate females in the tank. Even in your case with venustus and Taiwan reefs there may be some aggression between your males. Also Venustus tend to be more on the aggressive side while Taiwan reefs are probably one of the more mellow haps. But in a tank that size it may work, but you may also get hybrids.
