Based on your experience, is it always typically the female that always guards the eggs? Have any of you ever experience having the male guard the eggs?
One of my Umbees which I thought was male might have laid eggs
Two days ago I saw him/her in breeding behavior w/ one of my confirmed females. They were both digging, cleaning the pot, heads shaking...basic breeding behavior from what I know. Then yesterday I noticed that the confirmed female got the living s!*T beat out of her. It wasn't until this evening that I noticed eggs but the umbee which I thought is male is completely guarding them and won't let anything near them including the confirmed female.
I noticed that his/her tubes are down. Is that a dead give away its female or could that be in any way a male genital? I've attached a photo of the umbee which I thought was male...I've never seen any black on the dorsal/pelvic fins, he/she looks different from my confirmed female, and the blue spangling is all over.
I'm just stumped....I guess I'm still hoping its male
Please help.
