Looking for opinions on this. I've done angels before but am looking for a pair of something that can care for their young so I don't have to set up a separate tank to raise the eggs as I did with the angels. Looking to do a pair of some sort of SA CA cichlid. So far i have thought about jack dempseys, firemouths. EBJDS (I know these can be tough). Geo's, Green terrors (I know tank may be on the small side but I am only looking to house a single pair). And lastly jag's which I would end up growing out in the 37 and then breeding in my main 150. Divided from the rest of the tank. Just looking for some input. I really like the looks of a good jag and have had a few in the past. Could I get one spawn out of a pair in the 37 and then move them?

Jag pair in a 37 no it wouldn't work not even one spawn unless you wanna replace one of them cause they are typically sexually mature around 6-7 inches and that's already to big. Fire mouth may work but to me personally a 37 is to small same for ebjd.

A 37 gal might be big enough for some of the smaller Archocentrus types, nanoluteus comes to my mind.

I had a very young pair of Nosferatu bartoni spawn in a 40 gal, which would be about as close to one of the types you are suggesting, but after the bartoni juvies were large enough to have the parents removed, I quickly moved the pair to a 100 gal tank, where they spawned twice more.
Later the parent bartoni went to another member of our club who tried to keep them in a 55, where the female was quickly killed.

I really think a 37 gal is only large enough for dwarf cichlids.
