Hi, I have three male Crenicichla Regani in a 29 gallon. Amazingly, they don't chase and try and kill each other. They are probably about 8 months old, two measuring about 4 inches, and the other about 3 inches. I am presently looking for a female to breed, and any useful information on doing so. I'm sure I would have to remove two of the three males for the female's safety. I'm also wondering if I should get more than one female, and if i would in fact have to remove the other males. Any information on breeding these, or even where I can find a female, would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hey!! :) I replied to your Buy/Sell thread. ;)

You would indeed do better getting more than one female. Its always best to allow them to pair up on their own, and chances are those males won't appreciate the female in their territory.

Personally, I would remove two of the males, and add three females. Move the other males to another tank, and when one of those females pairs up, move the others with the remains males, and repeat until you have three pairs. :) If it were that simple that would be awesome.

You'll want to drop the pH to 6.5 or lower, and get the water as soft as possible. On top of that, you should feed them live black worms, or at least heavily with blood worms. It'll help condition them for breeding, and make them more receptive towards each other.

Be ready to separate them though, because as you know, they can be pretty brutal with each other in confined spaces.

Hope that helps some!

Viva La Crenicichla!
