I was wondering how many of you have successfully breed any type of piranha. If you have:

1. How old/big was the pair at the time of breeding?
2. What size tank were they in?
3. Where there any other inhabitants?
4. Did you do anything to induce breeding?

Any other interesting or useful information would be good.

red bellies are commonly bred others havnt been bred or only very very few times

1.become mature at about5" minimum but 6" is more common
2. 75 would be the least i would recomend however a larger tank can contain more so it increases chances of breeding
3. p's shouldnt have any other species (plecos sometimes work but its easier to have species only tank)
4. things like drop ph, lower temp, water changes, wet/ dry season... just research how to acheive these

I've read quite a bit about this but was just looking for some first hand experience. If anybody has successfully done this I was just wondering how they did so. Sean, what you said is pretty much what I've read. Thanks for the info.

I didn't do much...they just started spawning in the tank...1 male 2females...have eggs every week...

i had a pack of 14 reds and 6 pair were breeding. i raised them from egg to about 1inch. raising them is easy if you want only about 30% to make it. they eat all day long and i only had luck with newly hached brine shrimp. over about a month i had a little over 560 live. it is hard to keep large numbers but if you have the time money, and tanks you could make some money.

Wow, 14! Where they all in the same tank, and if so what size? I don't have the space to set up an operation like that but I'm sure it's sweet.
