I introduced my female JD to a male I just bought. They are roughly the same length but the male is a bit thicker. They are both mega aggressive (which I like). They did their fin displaying, lip locking, chasing, and finally started swimming together not leaving each other's side. The male has been digging random craters in the gravel (especially in a sunken ship decoration that provides a cave). They seem to have a love-hate relationship because they will be together for a while and then he will chase her and seemingly attack her, then after relentless abuse they will be back to swimming together. I had to divide the tank because 3 days ago she got beat up really bad and developed ick and tail rot. Im setting a quarantine tank up to treat her before it gets out of hand. It has been 3 weeks since they, what I can only asssume, paired up. I raised the temp to around 80, the water is alkaline and hard, no chlorine, 0 nitrites, nitrates are at a safe level, there are plenty of flat rocks (one of which has shelter over it), plus a cave. Only tank mate is a 7 inch RTC(I'm trying to get rid of(will give it away to whoever wants it). Why no eggs and why the relentless abuse from the male? Any solutions from experienced successful breeders?
