I have a “4 electric blue male and a stand and 31/2 “ brown blue spotted JD. I put them in the tank together 3 weeks ago. I put in a 4” Pleco at the same time. Beautiful fish. 2 days ago, they kicked the pleco out of his/ her hollow log home. They have both blackened, un-believably beautiful, hang out, lip lock, looks like it is time to start a family. Lol
I hear they will breed every two weeks now? I have them in a 29, setting up a 70. ( girlfriend fell in love with a clown knife). Will they be compatible? Lots of mixed ideas on this. Thanks. Pics and video coming soon. Not enough posts yet.

Sounds like breeding behavior to me. Would love to see some pics!

So in the 70 gallon will be the Dempsey pair and a clown knife? Hmmmm.. that clown knife might get some wear and tear. Better give lots of hiding places. Would be better to separate. How big is the knife? If you leave the knife with the dempseys in the 29, things will not be good.

Every two weeks, that is a little too frequent, but I have had some spawn in a 3-4 week span.

Good luck. Let us know what we can do to help.

We have a pair of activly spawning JD. They will not tolorate any other fish in the tank. They killed everything off that we were not quick enough to remove. Ours spawn about every 6 weeks or so. If your temp is a bit higher they may spawn more often. I had lowered our temp in the attempt to put them off as I have a tank full of 6 week old fry and really do not wish any more at this time. But the JD's had other idea's and spawned again over the weekend.
