Well, ive had probly 10 batches of convict fry so im not a complete noob to breeding cichlids. At first my Jags went at it for almost 3 days locking lips and not spending a moment without bickering with each other(i constantly watched worst injury was 1 or 2 lost scales). Now they dont lock lips but act like what i consider to be normal for breeding pair. Displaying and flaring but no eggs... its been over a week, both are digging and one (im assuming female) has been rubbing her belly against a rock(well half a cinderblock). i cant sex by venting because they both appear similar and they both have a similar pattern... take a look and and let me know if you think this is the girl, and any tips on getting them to breed?

This is a tough call to make, but i'm going to say yes, female. I would expect more colour from a male of that size. Can i see the other one please?

i would say male,i have two pairs of jags and the females have more of a yellow under bellies and no pattern.the one in the picture has a classic male pattern on his fins and body.
