I recently got a female for my male jag, and i was wanting some tips on how to get them to spawn. do i need to add floating plants or have the temperature set specifically? Any tips will be nice

When I had compatible pairs of managuense, I would mix a little cooler rain water with my water changes.
My tap water was hard (250ppm Total Hardness), so by adding slightly cooler rain water, it mimicked a seasonal change that might induce spawning in nature.
And if possible I'd do a fairly significant water change (40% of the tanks total water) every day for a couple weeks or so.

is it safe to do that many water changes that big before the actually spawn or is it when the are free swimming fry in the tank?

Enough to drop around 5 degrees. So measure the temp of your tank water and your cold tap water then do the math
