Hi everyone. I'm looking to start a breeding project in a 75gal. Was wondering if anyone has success breeding jds. If so I could use some advice as to the difficulty and methods used. Also the best way to obtain a breeding pair. Any advice is appreciated.

Yes Ive had luck breeding a 6 inch male with a 5 inch female in a 75.
They we're housed with a single convict cichlid acting as a target fish.

Breeding SA/CA cichlids is not that difficult to do, it normally takes patience and care.
My water temp was from 80-82 degrees.
I fed them a mix of cichlid gold pellets and frozen shrimp.
They spawned twice, once on a rock and again in an upturned clay flowerpot.

Males and females are easy to tell apart as they get bigger,Males have more blue spots and females have more blue on the bottom of there gills. All i needed was a few flat stones they layed eggs on,make sure to take out any Plecos, they sate a bunch of my eggs first time and the pleco got tore up pretty bad by the Jd while doing it one night.. Mine didnt eat anything special Hikari Bio Gold pellets and were at 78 degrees..

Jacks are as easy as convicts....please do give them a clay pot, hide out, house, etc... whatever you wanna call it...they'll hang in there and hopefully breed for you. I have bred jacks from 74 degrees up to 82 degrees...so theyre pretty temperamental....good luck...with your new project...take plenty pics to share....

Any luck breeding a JD with another cichlid? If so how'd it go and did it produce nice looking fry?

I have never personally bred 2 different species, but i bought a jd/convict mix and she was a pretty fish. It is possible, i just don't know how to get them to spawn.
