I have a group of 4 jewel cichlids ordered from the LFS and should arrive sometime this week (mean lady wouldnt give me the pair she had because I pointed out their fry), any advice on getting them to breed? Are they as easy as convicts ? (cant be that easy)

I have read that jewels are more likely to kill their mate and such after the fry hatch....Ive had convicts for almost a decade and never seen them behave like that. Is this true?

Any cichlid could kill their mate. They may be smaller fish but they are pretty aggressive and strong. Just make sure you have a pretty good size tank for them. BTW, they are african not SA/CA. But they do fine with SA/CA water conditions.

Mike - I thought you had space issues and had a 60G with a chocolate plus tetra and a 35G with convicts? Where are you putting the jewels?
