So I went and looked around and found a 40g for dirt cheap ($10!):WHOA:! I figured I would pick it up as it was in mint condition. I have a temporary penguin 200 on it btw. After practically stealing it, I ran up to petsmart and picked up a heater, black sand, and thermometer strip for it. I was thinking about breeding jewels in it because I have been debating breeding them for a while now and I need to know if this is a good setup for them? If so, any advice for them? Pics up soon. Thanks.:naughty:

id add some decoration in there first.

ime jewels are pretty easy to breed. annoyingly so though. they can be kind of prolific.

but they are stunning when theyre in breeding mode. i think theyre one of the prettier freshwater fish..... when breeding though.

I'm putting a lot of rocks and stuff in there but I am that after the tank cycles.

purchase a group of 4 or 6 juveniles, if conditions are good they will pair off, place pvc pipe or small ceramic pot in your aquarium. :)

thats a good tank size. they dont get too big. if you have somewhere for them to hide theyll reproduce.

Ok thanks. I was just trying to clear up some questions I had that seemed to have some mixed opinions. Feel free to comment on any suggestions you may have.

Jewels are awesome in a breeding pair regardless of the species. Lifalili, bimaculatus, ect, all species in the smaller jewel complex are stunning in breeding coloration. Great
Fish. You should be fine they do to get too big as stated above. Here's a pic of a female of mine after laying eggs! One of the prettiest freshwater cichlids IMO.
