Breeding jewl cichlids ?? Is it worth it

Have a pair in one of my community tanks are they worth trying to raise up and sell or trade ? What's everyone think

"worth breeding" is a silly question when you have half an empty fish room.

I mean what do you want out of them?

If you have places to offload the fry like LFS' or a local fish club than it would probably be cool to spawn them. From what I've read and heard they spawn like convicts so maybe there isn't a huge local market for them where you are, probably look into that. Also, if the male and female are alone in a tank he may bully her to breed more often and wear her out or outright kill her if she won't spawn. I know some fish will do that.

Also what species of Jewel do you have? Hemichromis guttatus seems very common and may not garner the interest of some of the less common species.

If you want to make money off of them then I would not recommend it. They breed very easily but they won't sell for much depending on the species, although their is a variant of hemichromis bimaculatus that is full of blue spangles that sell for decent cash.
