Hi,
I think i have a pair of key holes cichlids in 150, 50, 60, by themselves. They seem to be cleaning a spot in a pot. How can i help them breed? What should i look out for, and what do i do with the fry, or eggs when they are born?

Sorry for all the questions, never bred cichlids before, but have bred stingrays, strange eh:D .
Alex

look out for classic cichlid head to tail waving/fickering/speading of the fins, lip locking, cleaning of several areas fro possible breeding grounds, digging of pits, few days before you get the breeding tube appear...my keys have breed about 6 times but eggs always get munched by tank mates...good luck...do a water change it should stimulate them, mine always layafter a good water change

Thanks, so should i just leave the fry with them, or should i move them. Are they aggresive when they breed. I'm putting a ray in with them in a week, and they don't enjoy being chased?
Alex

well they chase other fish away....always stand there ground for such a small cichlid....how bigs the tank?yea it will be ok as far as keeping them with it i would imagine but cant garentee eggs to survive...same with my tank, too many hungry mouths

i dont get your first post, do you mean you have 1pair in a 150, another pair in a 50 and another in a 60?
they would be aggressive but nothing magor, you could remove the fry at free swimming then they would stop gaurding them:) gl

I will take some when i have some free time, only got them a week ago:) . Sorry for confusing you my tank is 150cm,50cm,60. And at the moment they are alone in there;) .

Feel free to look through my threads, as most of you on this side of the forum don't know who i am.:)

Alex

That's unfourtunate. I just hope i don't have the same experience with my ray:( .

that's a huge tank for a pair of keyhole..:D
questions:
- how to sex this cichlid?
- at what size/age are they sexually mature?

anyway, good luck for the breeding :)
