On the Rio Araguaia, I wish...
Okay, I realize this is a longshot but I was wondering if anyone had bread any large south american cats in the private aquarium. RTC, TSN, TIGs, Limas, Juruense, or any others.

Do you think it migh tbe possible to say breed Tigrinus in a 1500-2000gallon pond? Thanks ~Trent

I think they bree in holes in the mud along the riverbank, so you would probably have to re-create something similar to that, and flowing water.

Nobody I don't believe has actually bred the RTCxTSN cross on this board. Its still up in the air on if they actually hybridize in the wild or are test tube created. The flow wouldn't be a problem but the holes might be.... Interesting. Thanks for the info ~Trent

AFAIK, RTCxTSN cats are not a "spontaneous" hybrid. Parents are hormoned, eggs and milt are taken out and mixed in a "bucket". And they are said to be sterile, BTW. ;)

Best regards.

It's evil, but ever heard of "STRIPPING"????

Hmm the year was 1989...I was 9 and already reading material on the hobby, mainly about fancy goldfish...I came across the breeding section and something called stripping....Long story short....The object of the game is to maintain steady, skilled pressure on the sides of the reproductive organ, thus squirting out whatever is suppose to squirt out...Males milk sperm and females squirt eggs....Strip the fish in a growout tank and throw them back in their own tank....Hatching and rearing the fry are all left to the owner....I've tried it several times with only goldfish... :WHOA: It works:WHOA::thumbsup: ............

Well... The right term in english just skipped from me... It's called "extrudar" here in Brazil. Didn't know the same term used for taking fry out of the incubating parent's mouth (African cichlids, aros, etc...) was applied to what I described. Parents are hormoned (hypophysis hormone), massaged, eggs and milt are taken and mixed. Stripping, huh? :naughty:

Anyways, it's done here with a lot of fishes, including several pacus, dorados, carps, large cats... Mainly for food fish. :D

Best regards.

Daniel.
