Hello,

I am a newcomer to the aquarium game, and an even bigger newb when it comes to breeding. Ergo, I am going for breeding livebearers. I understand there aren't many to choose from, what are my options? Mollies, guppies, half beaks, goodeids, swordtails. Which would you choose? I have a 15 gal and a 20 gal. Will I end up having too many fry/fish for these tanks? If so, what would you for the surplus of fish? I also have a 30 gal with some koi. I suppose I could feed it to them. Any suggestions?

Gracias

You could try guppies, they are easy. But I don't suggest you feed them to you Koi. Koi are not carnivorous. If you want to breed guppies, get 2 females per male, and try to keep the pH around neutral, and the temperature maybe 80 or so. Good luck.

If it's a first time, I'd start with guppies, mollies or swords. If you wanted a fish you could easily sell, start with endler's livebearers. Be sure to get a pure strain. They are related to guppies and stunning in their own right.

guppies are the easiest....i have had soo much fry frm my 6 females that i started feeding them to my goldfishes, which are feeders for my SH's

nice. i think goodeid are going to be a bit hard for me to find.

what do you think of mollies?

You can find goodeids on Aquabid. I love sailfins, but they need larger tanks, as they get quite a bit bigger than standard mollies. Mollies like hard water and salt. Some folks keep them in brakish tanks, some even in total saltwater.
