Have 2 Midas, male and female, was just wondering if anyone had any tips w/ breeding. Thanks, here are the two...

Package up that male then ship it to me, best advice ever! LOL Back on topic, i didn't think there was a perfect way of telling sex other than venting because older females grow a nutchel hump as well as males. The lighter colored fish's hump is pretty big for a female but I seen some strange things.

Could always use the egg crate divider way- seeing that the female looks to be so much smaller than the male. Cut a hole a little bigger than the female (providing the male cant fit into it as well) and then she can come over and see him and flee if he gets too rough. I have never bred midas- but I cannot imagine it much differentfrom other central americans- providing you have a big enough tank of course. Good luck either way, I hope it works out good. And besides we need a supplier of true Midas in the Kc Metro area- its too much hit or miss lol.

Good luck and I would be interested if you get fry

INCOMPLETE DIVIDER safest and easiest way for the female eggcrate divider with holes cut in it for HER ACCESS ONLY or if you want to mess your tank up with a divider just put ornaments and caves and cravices the HE can NOT fit in once again for HER ACCESS ONLY

and this gives her a few safe houses for when the courtship starts (she is gonna need them with that kind of size difference)

eggcrate method works as metioned.
ive never need an eggcrate for the all the midas i have owned.
just a cave for the female to retreat to once in a while.

thanks all! There is a cave/root system in there. Also plenty of rocks and such, she can hide and isn't as small as she looks in pic, she is 6-7 inches long. Here is a picture of the tank...
