I can get some cheap juveniles and I was going to breed them. My tanks are small. So I'll keep the small ones in a ten until they are ready to be fed to my fish. And keep the parents in my 20. When the exceed 6-7 inches I'll filet them
And feed them to my catfish and grow out some of the juveniles. I have some questions.

1: what is the best subtrate for breeding? Will a bare bottom work?

2: how do you sex them?

3: what size do the breed at?

4: general experience? I've breed convicts before and I've been told they are easier to breed than convicts.

You are going to need bigger tanks.
The best way to breed them, Is harem breeding.
1 male, 4 or 5 females. 1 on 1, the male is too aggressive.
You sex them by venting them. There are a lot of pictures on google.

You also need to make sure they are even legal for you.

These get huge - fast - so even if you want to eat them, you will be eating them in a few months. In a 20 gallon tank, the dominant male will kill any others very quickly. Females included.
You really need to do more research before doing this.

I don't have them yet. I haven't been able to find much on the Internet except that they are easy to breed. This is my research. Asking people on MFK.

Asking is not research, no offense intended.
Look up "Breeding Tilapias" on google - especially since you seem to want them for food, you can also look up "Farming tilapia" - you'll find everything in 5 minutes. Good luck.

I guess that depends on who you ask. I haven't had luck finding anything useful. So I decided to ask. But never mind that, because it is not possible, I won't do it. Instead I'll try my luck with guppies.
