In A Van Down By The River
I have had 2 oscar for some time now since they were just a couple inches big. Now they are close to 10 inches. They have always gotten along fairly well. Im not sure if i have a breeding pair or a fighting pair. They will occasionlly chase each other around, stare each other down, turn from a dark color to a bright color, their tails will vibrate, then act like they are fighting until they lock lips for a second or two and they are done and go about swimming around together. Do I need to seperate them from the other fish in the tank? Do I need to heat the water some to induce breeding? Im not sure what to do i wish they would breed and have oscar babies...

Oscars are difficult to breed, its even more difficult to distinguish acts a courtship from acts of aggression. You could very well have a pair that may eventually breed. Or you have 2 Oscars that fight on occasion. Really the only thing you can do is watch them and make sure neither get injured in these spats, and make sure your watch stays pristine.

As long as the oscars aren't bothering the other fish in your tank or vice versa I wouldn't worry about removing them.

I have had breeding pairs of O's. And the behavior you are describing sounds very promising in a pair. However, in my experience, if the behavior appears to be more than one sided and not mutual, then you may have a different story on your hands.

Only time will tell...

All pairs will act different!my pair fight almost daily like a old couple!some days are good some days are not so good! Raise temp in tank slowly to 82 daily water changes 25% with cold enough water to lower tank temp a couple degrees.cover part of the tank add some slate. Lots of tricks to trigger fish to breed.
