Im new to the site and just wanted to say hello!

I just rescued a couple of Oscars from a local fish store, they were kept in a tiny little fish tank. I am told they are a pair. One is around 25cm (tiger oscar) and the other around 15 (red oscar) and they swim around together without showing the slightest bit of aggression towards the other tank mates. I just wanted to know what signs of them beginning to breed are? I have kept single Oscars in the past but never a pair. Plus I have no idea which is male or female. Ive always assumed it is pretty hard to breed Oscars.

They wont take live food yet either, but should come round soon? I also have the suspicion that theyve been kept in a small tank all for most of their lives, they seem very happy now.

Cheers.

yey you got it riight. they are hard fish to breed. the signs of them beggining to are flaring and lip locking. digging pits around your aquarium. if you have a slate rock in the tank they will scrape it constantly, and they will start to get rather aggressive towards other tankmates.

Yeah theyve been flaring at each other quite frequently but not lip locking or cleaning slate. Ive a couple of slate caves and random bits of slate pushed into the gravel for them, but they havnt really touched them yet. Lets see what happens.
