Is it hard to breed oscars. And how can you tell male and female and what size do they get till they can breed.

hard to tell male and female????? impossible!!!! unless the water temp is up and the mood is set... because then they will stick out there breeding tube. You'll know right away if its male or female. The males tube is very thin and pointy while the females looks really wide and large for laying eggs.

Another method is to actually remove the fish from the water, hold it upside down and look at the vents. There should be two holes..... if both are same size its a male, if one is noticably bigger then female.

Best thing to do is put 6 in a large tank, let them pair off.

Best to have them in a tank by themselves as well.. I read in a couple diferent books that they breed when they cannot see any other fish :).. Though I know this is not alwyas the case... but farms succeed best in this fashion (From what I read ) I will get the reference book or books of you would like ? :)
