I have a pair of Oscars female 10" Male 8". Are there any specific water parameters, or anything of the sort i.e. temp, light cycles etc. That I need to do?

The female is a beautiful ruby tiger oscar. Lots of red.
The male is a plain Oscar with very little red.

Which parent do the fry get the most characteristics from??

I have them in a 40breeder. Should I put in some slate??
Any suggestions will be appreciated..

The first thing I would do is get them a bigger tank. Oscars are fairly easy to breed. You don't need to do anything special for them really. A pot would work, slate would be fine. 50% water changes should incite them to breed like any other fish. Keep the temperature regular.

Raise the temp to 78-80. Do regular water changes and feed them small amounts of food 3 times a day. Good quality food. Provide 2 or more places in which to lay thier eggs.
