Hi There-A buddy of mine is getting out of the hobby and has a breeding pair of discus he wants to give to me. I have access to one of those old school 2 compartment acrylic aquariums connected by 2 tubes. The dimensions of each compartment is around 22" Across x 13" Deep x 20" High = about 24.75 gallons. Though I've kept South American Cichlids for a long time, my experience on Discus is a bit light. I tend to like to give my fish more roaming room, but read somewhere that 10 gallons per adult Discus is good. The 13" depth does concern me a bit though. Can a few of you chime in and let me know if this would work? Thanks

Considering how big discus get, no. With tall body fish, too shallow water makes it hard to move up and down, and may cause problem with dragging fins over the substrate. And 25g is too small for even a single discus.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your input. Not at all debating what you are saying, but it seems like many breeders prefer a smaller tank for pairs so that the fry can find the parents to feed off the slime coat. Ran across this? I say this not to be snarky at all, but any thoughts on the video?
Start at the 5 minute mark-runs till about 6:30

No problem :)
Brooding pairs may possibly be contained in smaller tanks. I think the idea is that they only move around in a small radius around their eggs once they spawn, so a small tank doesn't matter. With that being said, after the fish have finished with a brood, what then?
I think the small tank in that video is most likely temporary, only for when the fish are raising fry

For breeding an aquarium of 50cm x 50cm x 50cm is most often used.

That is arround 125 liter or 33 gallons
