Breeding Pair of Chocolate Cichlids and Trimac's

The video looks fine. You have some beautiful pairs there. But just a heads-up. Keep a careful watch on their interaction. If those Trimacs settle down to breed, they will make short work (i.e. annihilate) the other fish in that tank. They can be one of the nastiest, toughest of CA cichlid species IME. And then once they have the tank to themselves, there is a good chance the male Trimac will trash his female. Frankly, I wouldn't mix the CAs with the SAs. They have very different temperaments and requirements. Chocolates are very gentle in comparison to the Trimacs and can be easily stressed. They might coexist in a very big tank (180G+) with lots of structure, and several other target / dither fish but I wouldn't risk it. It will be just a matter of 'when' it will happen ... not 'if'.

Lots of great fish you have, might have to get some fry off you down the road from this pair. Wish I would have taken a closer look in person, kept finding myself wanting to go back to the 500 and sit and watch:), I could sit in front of that for hours.

Been thinking about it, you have to keep the Mbu, badass fish!

I am surprised the trimac pair has not trashed the chocolate. You are combining the most aggressive with the least aggressive cichlids. I tried chocolate in my Vieja tank, and he was too timid to come out to eat and eventually stressed out to death, and Vieja is only mildly aggressive.

The Chocolates and geos are a great combination to share a common tank. Ideal tankmates.

^ agreed! I keep Chocolates and RH Taps together.
