Hey guys, i need your help..

I have an opportunity to pick up a breeding pair of Jags REAL cheap!
I just wanna know wether you can EVER mix a breeding pair of Jags with tankmates, and if so what tankmates are the best??

they are monsters at the finest when there breeding or soon to spawn. Will kill almost any thing within 3-4' of the nest. therefor 8'+ tank to be kept with other fish.

A small pair of managuense will only defend a 1-2 foot "cube around their nest. A large pair will claim a 4x2 for only themselves.... If small go for it, and prepare to upgrade. Large- don't try it with less than a 180....

I have a 6-7" pair with fry, they will about knock themselves out hitting the glass if I get too near. They also jump and attack my hand as I'm putting food into the tank. I would hate to see what they would do to other fish.

wow mixed reviews huh... i guess i may have to pass on the breeding pair but i really like the look of the Male Jags, would a male Jag do well in a 300gal with my RTC (19") Silver Aro (2ft) and 3 Pbass (20cms) if so what size should the male jag be??

I would say the jag should be a least the size of the Pbass. I am surprised though that your RTC has not made a meal out of your 8" bass.

yeh the bass are doin good, ive got large drift wood pieces that ive strategically placed in one corner of the tank where the bass usually chill at night (like a cave sort of) and my RTC never bothers them, otherwise there just too quick for him.

CHeck out my album you should see photos of them :)

Not for nothing, but I've got a breeding pair in my 190g. See my sig line for stocking. The female is around 6" and the male is close to 12". The female also bred once with my other big male who was 15". I say "was" because he broke his back hitting the glass protecting the fry from my daughter who came up to the glass a little too fast.

In my tank, the parents don't get crazy protective until the fry become free swimming. Once that happens, they protect about 3 feet of my 5 foot tank. With that said, no one really bothers them either. It's like they understand to keep out. Again, see my sig line for tankmates.

Now, with all of that out of the way, are you prepared for 1,000 fry every four weeks or so? The jaguars are the convicts of guapotes. It just so happens that in my tank, the fry slowly disappear over the course of about a week. They wander away from the nest and get picked off a few at the time until there are none left. This usually takes about a week from when they become free swimming until there are no more.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck. Remember, every fish's personality is deifferent. Just because I don't have problems doesn't mean you won't. I also have a breeding pair of loisellis in this tank. The female loiselli recently also mated with the male friedrichsthalii. Again, good luck.

thanks for your input terd, if i give it a go ill post up pics..
