hi i have a standard 4ft tank

the tankmates include 2 silver dollars, 2 sailfin/goldnugget plecos, a frontosa, 3 peacocks, 2 julies, a yellow chromi(baby) and a striped blue cichlid of some sort.

i also have an established breeding pair of jewel cichlids which ive had for about a month now i think and from what i was told they were a great breeding pair. ive had no spawning from what i could see so fare.

decorations only include a giant hollow bell which the male lives in and a hollow ornamental log which the female sometimes gets into, but the male can. i was just wondering if the bond had somehow been broken or shes just not spawning because i havent provided a desirable breeding place?

the first day i had them in the tank i noticed they had a mouth fight which was getting pretty aggressive so i broke it up with the fish net because it looked like some damage was gona happen if i didnt.
the female has flared up bright red a couple of times whilst swimming with the male but i havent noted this lately as she mostly sticks to the dull pink colouration.

they continue to swim with each other and they continually brush their bodies against one and other but as for spawning i havent seen anyting of the likes yet.

could anyone please shed some light on the matter?

what is your ph and temperature, i had a similar situation when i bought a breeding pair of angels i had them in a tank for over a year but recently when i put them in a 140g they spawned on the day i put them in

the temperature is 26-27 and ph is hovering i think just under 7.0, only just as i perseve it to be a lil lighter green then the chart says :) what were yours in to begin with? did you move them from a community tank to their own? where there any changes in the tank from the old one?

im thinking possibly the lack of no smooth surface stones may be my problem!.

i have just bought about 18 1" jewels and the guy who i bought them from said his 2 breeding pair bred every 10 to 14 days non stop,

i have 3 jewels in a 4ft tank who keep killin my other fish they killed a silver shark 8mollys and my filter shrimp. about 3 weeks ago i noticed 1 was digin a hole in the sand and not letin ne 1 near it then 2day i found hundreds of babys but they lasted about 3hours till my jewels and pictus cats ate them. i have only got 4 plastic plants n a plastiic treestump hopefuly i will get ore soon and b able 2 keep them good luck with ur pair

Jewels do prefer a flat rock to spawn on. I find a water change triggers mine to spawn. Normally the next day after the water change I find they have laid eggs. I haven't yet managed to successfully have fry though

Hey
