In parallel to the other thread, "looking for a good parachromis pair for a 140 gallon tank". In this thread if you have breeding parachromis, what size are the fish now and what size tank are you keeping them in, are they in a community tank? Everybody always has ambitions to buy a bigger tank, my question is what are they in now?

I waited to get my dovi until I felt I had a tank ready for them, I have a custom tank made by Marineland, it is 85 inches long, 30 inches wide and 24 inches tall.

My male dovi is around 18 inches and the female is around 12 inches.

And yes like everybody else I would like upgrade my tank, I want a 4 foot wide tank next.:D

My large pair is in a 10' x 4' acrylic. The male is 20" or so, and "his" female is roughly a foot.

There is another smaller pair in the same tank, a spare female, and a host of other CA cichlids. I wouldn't suggest this mix to others, and I likely won't do it again in the future. This particular dovii is more interested in killing me than any fish. He wasn't so tolerant in smaller (otherwise huge!) tanks. He has always been mixed with other fish though. Isolated fish may never be able to mix with others in the future.

One trick I use is to make sure the large pair cannot raise fry. I make sure their "lairs" can be accessed by plecos so that the eggs can be eaten at night. It is very uncommon for more than a handful of fry to be born, and they mostly get picked off before they get .5" or so by other night predators.

What is it with you two and your spats? All he did was ask nicely for a picture of your setup. There's no need for smart remark to everything.

Reverse is the master, his comments are always funny as hell.
Just for the thread: I dont have any parachromis, but i would not keep a full grown pair of Dovii in a tank smaller than 180g.

Make you happier, sorry to upset your gentle manner.......

Why would that make me happy? I'm sure you have a great setup and a very nice pair. I just don't get why you go out of your way to make rude comments at every chance. I guess some people find it funny. I personally find that the SA/CA forum is getting less friendly and helpful. It has nothing to do with a gentle manner, I just don't understand why a forum with people that all are supposed to love fish is always nothing but drama.

Sorry for the derail. I don't have any parachromis so I have no personal experience to add. From friends that have kept parachromis I would think that a 125g would work for a pair of most of them. Dovii are different and probably really need something at least 300g and maybe much larger.

Let's see some info this topic and pictures of the setups to go with them:naughty:.

right now i have a a breeding pair of dovii in a 125g male is like 14 inches female is like 8 roughly they seem ok in there so far hopen to move this summer then i can get a 300 wide for them .......if u remember like two weeks ago they had their 1st eggs ....soooo hop ethat helps ya
