Hi all,

I was wondering if a 2 & Half foot tank would be suitable for breeding pairs of American Cichlids?
I have a 6ft. with a whole range of American Cichlids but was hoping I could just throw a pair of them into my 2 and half foot to help them get to it more peacefully and less threat from other fish. My hopes are to be able to throw my Flowerhorn and a Parrot into the tank to try my luck at some Kirin Parrots.

Please note that these fish are not full grown but ARE ready to breed, the parrot laid eggs prior to the purchasing of my Flowerhorn, but no male was interested. My Flowerhorn is showing significant interest and both Fish sexual organs are protruding quite a lot.

Fish Sizes are roughly as follows.

Flowerhorn- 6/7"
Parrot- 7/8"

Attached is a picture of the fish in question to give you rough estimates of fish sizes.

Thanks in advance.

They'll out grow that tank in a month or so, they grow fast.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I tried it out but had to put them back into the six foot.
Reason being is because every time somebody walked passed them in the 2 and a half foot the fish got really scared and coward up in the corners of the tank and I have no idea what was spooking them so much.
If we sat back at the other side of the room and watched they would start digging and cleaning rocks ready to lay, but the second we moved they just coward up into the corners it was ridiculous lol.
here they are cowering in the corners any ideas why that may be?

from larger tank to smaller one, from community to solitary...,it will take some time for them to adapt in the new tank, as they already used to your community tank environment. Wish u luck..

Thanks for the replies people appreciate it. I decided to put them into the 6ft again because I am picking up a 4ft at the end of the month to hopefully breed them in :) im also getting a lovely corner tank for my angels and rams and might put a few discus in there also :)
