what size can you determine the sex and breed a senegalus bichir?i have 2 senegalus bichirs.i have them for about 6months now, they are now more than 12inches(1 is slightly longer and fatter).since i do not know the exact age of my bichirs, what size can they mature to breeding age?

can you post pics so we could sex them out for yah.

males have larger anal fins then females. u can ussaly tell the sex around 6'' - 7'' on a senegalus
thank you for this photos,i think i have a pair.but i also read that females should be bigger, mine, the male is bigger..what should be the set up if i want to breed them?i keep them in a pond(don't have space for a big a tank).hehe!

well if they mate and lay eggs odds are they will be eaten by the parents or anyoter occupants of the pond-Anne

are the eggs big enough to be spotted from above?with them are 2 oscars and 5 full grown adults.will they still try to spawn even if there are other fish in the pond?

is there a season that bichirs would breed?or they would breed whenever they're ready?

the are generally .9mm to 1mm in size. Most likely but the eggs will be eaten by them
and the other fish.there is a polypterid forum here with a primer in the stickie section that cover breeding,i suggest you read it-Anne
