Hi. Today I caught my brown anole on top of my green, brown is a male, green is a female, the brown had it's arms around the other one.

When I went closer to see, they stopped. My bad.

Ummm. I'm just wondering, is it possible to breed a green with a brown? will anything happen if the eggs are by chance fertile If i get eggs?

thanks.

If they lay eggs and the eggs hatch, you'll end up with the rarely-seen broeen anole. If they are fertile, then God help us:(

jk....actually I doubt the offspring would be fertile, and I kind of have a feeling that the two species can't hybridize easily. Back when I was in school over in New Orleans, I'd go for walks in the park and look at the lizards. They had lots of green anoles (native), as well as lots of brown anoles (invasive). I think if there were no fertility barriers, then the populations of both species would have hybridized so much by now that they would be indistinguishable.

Yep I didn't think so. I was hoping for a greown or breen anole.lol.

what substrate do you use?
For substrate I use EcoEarth, its like a brick of coconut dust that turns into something similar to soil. I prefer it over other things. Not sure why that matters.

P.S. Fishtamer, did it work for you?
thanks for the help.

They wont hybridize, even in s florida land of the exotics green and browns are still distinguishable

but if the green was in a brown stage then mabye....lol jk i highly dout they will i agree with varanio i used to live in s fl and not a single hybrid of the two.

years ago i kept a few green anoles (1 male 4 females) in a large planted viv, i had one male brown anole with them. i saw a handful of matings between the two species throughout the time i had them (in retrospect i really should have separated them, im sure that just caused unneeded stress)...all the babies i hatched were greens. so i dont think they could successfully hybridize, im sure i would have seen atleast one hybrid come from my stock at some point if they could (but i suppose i could be wrong).
