Lost my prospective female breeder around 5 months back and got a new one at about a week after. She was 8~9 inches back then but has only grown about an inch since I got her, shes gotten fatter but not really bigger. I'm getting anxious to put her in my main tank with my 11" male and try if they would mate. So should I? Or is it a bad idea?

I would wait if she isn't big enough. Is that motoro pure or a hybrid? Never seen one with almost no spots?

I guess its a normal one with small spots.

The male is in the bigger tank, so i either mover her in or switch housings. Would really be great if they can start already, i mean 4 mos of heavy feeding and only an inch in growth, the slowness is killing me

its not the size its the age that matters

Female that size and age still has a ways to go, she will catch up to the male soon enough

I disagree. It is a combination of age, size, genetics and environmental factors.

My motoro's gave birth to healthy pups at 15months of age. So they were pregnant at roughly 12months of age, far younger than 98% of what I was previously told. I put this down to unmeasurable genetic traits and the care that was given to my rays and the subsequent growth that was seen. My girls were 12" + at 12months of age.

To say it is simply an age determined is very misleading.

Tried it out today and saw that the female was still hesitant toward the male, stinger was up all the time.

Just decided to switch tanks and keep the females in the bigger tank, might be harder to feed them cause of the competition but just have to alter the feeding order.

Thanks for the input guys :D

FYI just measured them and female was 9.5" and male was a little under 11". I have another female motoro that's only 7" and here's to hoping that she catches up soon, so I can move them once I move house and into their bigger tank.

I think you are better off keeping them separated and pumping the food into the girl. At 9.5" she is too small to breed. At 11" (and judging by the pic) I'd say your male is good to go. A smaller immature female with a larger mature male is a recipe for disaster. You are not doing yourself or your rays any favors by rushing things.
