Anyone know the breeding habits of Rainbow Cichlids (Herotilapia Multipinosa)?

I bought 2 a few wks ago an luckily i have a male and female, they are only about 1.5 to 2"s an they seem to have paired up. The male is always displaying and now the female is joining in.

I have kept them, I cycled my tank with 10 and they all survived..They are quite hardy little things and mine were quite slow growers. The real good thing about them is there ability to change colours so quickly and frequently 1 minute there a nice gold and black striped the next pitch black. All in all intresting little fellows.

mine seem to be shooting up, i havent had them 4long and the male has nearly doubled in size. He stands up against my 4" Angel who cases everything! Ive tried to get a pic of them but they go wild when i walk in the room.

The reason I had so many was my LFS had 300, and they just were'nt selling cos they are not really made for the community. In the end he had about 30 left and they got some kind of infection which he did'nt treat. Inhumain I know, but he was a bussiness and they were not bringing in any capital.

just give them a rock to spawn on and wait it wont be to much longer

nice do they breed like convicts

AFAIK, they're very easy to breed. Not like cons, but get close. They're said to be gentle with tankmates even when defendind their spawn, being suitable for community tanks even in pairs. Nice fishes, BTW. Congratulations.

Best regards.

Daniel.
