Hi all, I'm looking for a little advice. I'm about to start up a new 180 litre tank with sand substrate and I plan on getting a couple of bolivian or german rams amongst other things.

I have very soft water in my area with a pH of around 6.6.

What would be the ideal breeding conditions for rams, and is it difficult to do?

Thanks, Dougal.

Thanks Oddball, I'll have a read at that :)

Just to let you know a few things about rams as once again one of my dads faves :

Getting a pair has become increasingly difficult these last few years. This is because rams that are bred in the Far East. Are treated with hormones, these initially makes them more colourful, but it also makes them sterile. After a couple of months when the effects of the hormones wear off, they lose almost their entire colour. But they remain sterile. my dad always sold his to my mates shop and they were snapped up right away. Its the same with most of his fish breeding he acquire a half dozen about a half-inch in total length drop them in a tank so they can work it out for themselves. i know you can sex them but its best for them to work out who they fancy:D water temperature should be at least 78-82suggest raising temperature from 82-86 to the upper eighties F. to instigate spawning. with a hardness of about 80 ppm
