This is a general question not specific to any 1 particular kind of ray. I want to take a stab at breeding rays, first I think I'll try with motoros and a little later flowers. I was planning on building either a big enclosure in basement or garage, roughly 9ft by 9ft or either two smaller setups around 4ft by 8ft. Is ok to have 2 to 3 breeding pairs in same enclosure or should I separate the pairs.

its good to have one male to many females..

rather than one to one ratio..
one male can impregnate more than one female.

also if u mix pairs up u loose track of who the parents are....
as keeping separate bloodlines is good practice.

Fully agree with you.

I would start with a male and 2 female. plenty food and clean water seem to encourage mating.

You may need to sometimes add a second male to encourage breeding. After one starts breeding you can split up to keep track of breeding.
If flowers are a plan go with a 9 x 9 and add dividers later.
I only know of one case of flowers breeding and the pups didn't make it. Best of luck with your project.

now i have 1 male with 3 female motoros,
the female are about 10" in diameter, with smaller male about 9,5" up.
i've seen a male on that size is started to breed,
but my male motoros looks not interested yet to mate...
his claspers not fully grown yet, just about 1-2 cm long,
anybody explain about this?n the solution are needed...:headbang2
:stingray::stingray::stingray:...

im gonna just say there are people out there with set ups worth over a 100 grand who cant get flower rays to breed... sorry but i highly doubt you will be the one to do it... i would stick with motoro if i were you...

I love a challenge. :D

Seriously, I will start with the easiest thing and try to work my way up. I have a small local fish business and am learning that I prefer breeding my fish than buying from wholesaler and flipping them every week or so. I want to try stingrays next.

Is it hard to breed retics?

Thanks fo the replies
