I would like to have a go at breeding rays but my tank footprint is only 7 x 2.5ft

I have noticed that a few places have Reticulated rays in at the moment which I know stay smaller. Are they as hard to look after as i have read has anyone here kept reticulated rays?

Am I better off waiting to find some true Hystrix or could I breed something like Motoros and then move them on when they are bigger?

I think I have read that there is a type of marble motoro that stays relatively small - is this correct?

ive never heard of breeding hystrix rays but then again i am no expert on them. I think that if you were trying to breed rays, motoros wud definetly be the easiest. from what ive heard, marbles dont necessarily stay smaller, but just grow a little slower. i would focus on keeping rays first before attempting to breed them .

by the time the motoros got to breeding size, they wouldn't fit in your tank.
retics tend to die only because they are bottom of the barrel stock and are poorly shipped and handled. if you happen to have a good lfs that treats them upon arrival and is willing to beef them up for a month or two for you, it would be better. this said, rays generally take 2.5 yrs if not longer to reach sexual maturity, if you want to breed, you'd be better off buying mature adult rays, in which retics and hystrix will be harder to come by. motoros of variation would be easiest to locate, but would require the tank space.

Im already keeping a Male Motoro and female Motoro x Orbignyi but realise I will prob have to move these on as they get bigger. I'm just looking for ideas on anything that I could possibly have a go at breeding.
