The only captive-breeding of pacus that I know about occured with pacus kept in earthen ponds. The group was heavily fed for several months then, netted and injected with spawning hormones. Then, they were placed in large holding bins. Once the injections kicked in the males and females released milt and eggs into the holding bins, the adults were placed back into the ponds and the eggs were hatched in incubator trays.
About a decade ago, a public aquarium experienced a spawn of pacus in their display tank. The eggs were deposited in the tanks border plants. However, it was reported that none of the eggs hatched.
