most males are sterile

I Take it you don’t mean Parrot Cichlid "Hoplarchus psittacus"? But the other kind of parrot cichlid, it is sometimes called the parrot cichlid or blood parrot this is a "hybrid fish”

The blood parrot cichlid is a man-made hybrid. The exact origins of the fish is hearsay. As it’s a hybrid it doesn't have a scientific name.

They sometimes do successfully have young my father had a par that spawned all the time but nothing happened I know of some one that did successfully get a pair to raise the fry but they were green.(the fry that is not mum and dad)

If you mean Blood Red Parrots, the hybrids, tte female's eggs are viable, but something like 99% of hte males are sterile.
Oh, and the males get HUGE.
I had 2 males and a female in a 55, now I have the two males in a 55 with a divider, and they are moving to a 90 next month because they are GIANT and the water quality issues are something ridiculous.

A 20? Not in a MILLION years.
Maybe a female BRP and a convict male in a 29...
