Does anyone have any advice on breeding Rose Queens? I have a pair that has mated once but the eggs were not fertilized. I heard this is common alot the first time fish breed. Any advise would be appreciated.
From what I understand Rose Queen is a result of the same cross that makes Blood Parrot ( Midas x Red Head ) so it wouldn't surprise me if they have fertility problems.
I would try a few more times, and if it doesn't work you could try a different male like Red Devil, Midas or maybe a red Flowerhorn.
What do you have as substrate? 1time is usally not good. make sure you dont have too much force from powerheads, etc, as the sperm is put out by the male over the eggs, and too much water force could cause the sperm to dissipate into the water. also recommend using a plate for them to spawn on. Preferably terra cotta. The eggs seem to stick better. Once the eggs are laid I would suggest you add some rid all, as the eggs will be under attack by fungus , and this will help keep fungus off. also place plate at 45 degree angle to help keep dirt from falling onto eggs. then you will need some water movement to help the female keep the eggs fanned. Then you may need to separate male and female because she willbecome super aggressive to ward anything that moves. Hope this helps. Now the waiting game 6-8 moreweeks youmay try again
