I have 2 Johannas that have paired up they are currently in a 125 gallon but have not spawned yet. Would it be a death sentence to one of them to move them to a 75 gallon all to them selves with some large clay pots for cave like structures? They are keeping all of the other fish huddled into the corner of the 125 and just beat the crap out of my vulture cat for getting to nosey...

I don't think the 75g tank would be a problem. In the 90's Dr. Wayne Leibel had one of the few known lugubris (marmorata) spawns in that size aquarium. Keep an eye on them though - compatible pike couples sometimes trash each other when moved from a community tank to a honeymoon suite. Good luck with your johannas, what size are they?

:iagree:

My "pair" of lents decided a breakup was in order AFTER getting rid of their tankmates in a 210, including four other lents the same size! :irked::irked::irked: Now they live in a 150 with a devider between them. . . Next time I am getting juvies to start with

Oh Yeah - good luck with the spawn - IMHO, you should leave them in the 125 and re-home the rest into the 75. . . unless they are all brutes as well!

:iagree: Its risky moving an already established pair as you could break up the bond.

:iagree: Again, sound advice. Although removing the other fish from the 125gal might present problems. Having the other fish to pound on keep their attention off of each other. Remove the other fish, they might start to squabble. Give it a go and see what happens. :) You might just get lucky eh?

Good luck with the pair whatever you do! I have a nice male johanna thats about 7"... going to be picking up a few others in the similar size range in due course... hopefully get a pair. Let us know how it turns out!

I currently have the Jos, 1 cincta pike, 1 bullhead catfish, 1 marbled pim, 1 Fl gar, 5 Silver Dollars, and 2 Jaguars in the tank. I am thinking about removing all except for the Jags and the SDs since the Jags have claimed the other end of the tank and the SDs seem to be able to go where they please....

That sounds like an exceptional plan. Only problem would be if the jags decided to breed, might cause some issues. However, you'll need to drop the pH/hardness of your water to get the jos to breed, which won't hurt the jags, but it should stop them from breeding.

What he said, I found Parachromis to be good tankmates for the pikes - they mostly stay out of each others way.
