Hey,
I'd like to breed silver dollars to make more dollars and be rich.....

No seriously though, i'd like to know if breeding silver dollars is possible.
I have 2 about 3" in my 75 gal with my saratoga Jardini, and they have really helped him a LOT! he used to hide whenever i came close to the tank, and now he comes to me when its feeding time, im really happy with using them as dithers.

So yeah is it possible to breed them? and how would one go about it?

I don't know much about breeding them but here is what the March 06 edition of Tropical Fish Hobbyist says.

In order to breed the fish need floating plants in which they like to swim through in their breeding runs. Experienced breeders like to provide the fish with soft water, and some add peat moss or utilize peat filtration. It says a single female can produce up to 1000 eggs, which will drop to the bottom.

It says that the parents aren't that bad about eating the eggs but other fish will eat them. But serious breeders remove the parents.

The eggs hatch in three days and will be free-swimming in about a week. They then can be fed infusoria at that time.

This is what the magazine says but hopefully somebody else will be able to help you more.

Please let us know if you accomplish this. I think it would be awsome to breed silverdollars.

Mine bred for me. I didnt do anything special and I didnt intend to either.

My female mysteriously died soon after though :(
