Hi everyone. I have a 4 inch red dragon flowerhorn that lays eggs every month or so. The problem is that I don't have male around her size to fertilize the eggs. I do have 2 large male red dragon flowerhorns about 7 inches. Can I use 1 of the larger males to fertilize the eggs even with the size difference and how can I do it without the female getting hurt or killed? Thanks, Ed.

Use the egg crate method..........Cut the side/bottom of a plastic egg crate........Then place the single peice in the middle of the tank.........The fish will be abole to see each other and get used to each other.........Flowerhorns horns known to turn on their partners, so cut out only big enough hole for the smaller fish to squeeze through.............

The more gauranteed/quick way of getting fry is stripping..........Stripping consists of squeezing the eggs and sperm out of the male and female breeders........It is also called milking.............Put the eggs and sperm inside a small tank container and after 20 minutes, put the egg sperm combo in the growout tank..............Keep the water level half way in the tank for the first 2 weeks........Do 50% water changes during this two week period...............

Thanks for your advice. I have them divided by a piece of plexi glass so they can see each other but I don't want to cut it so I'm going to use a piece of egg crate. I have a couple of questions. 1. What should I put in the the tank for the female to lay the eggs on? 2. How do you know when to cut the space for the female to squeeze thru? 3. Should I wait until the female drops her egg tube? 3. I would like to use the stripping method but how do you know when to squeeze the male and female? Do I still have to have the female go over to the males side? 4. Is there a problem with the size difference? Thanks, Ed.

Can a moderator delete this topic. I'm going to try this in the flowerhorn section. Thanks, Ed.
