Almost all fll grown cichlids I have seen were just under 6 inches.......The majority of do not make it to 6 inches, LOL, dam feeders..........

It would take years for them to reach 4", let alone 6"...

If you are breeding them for food you'll be waiting a lonnnnnnnng time for a 4" one.

If I did this I'd grow them out to .5"- 1" at the most, that takes long enough as it is. While that may be small to certain predators quantity will make up for it.

I agree, most convicts I've seen max at around 4", but I'm sure they can get to 6" with the right treatment . . . I saw one in a display tank once, might have been the biggest convict ever

if you really wanted to do this, just regularly cull your biggest juvies . . . eventually, you'll whittle your stock down to just the runts . . .

Uhm. Why wouldnt you want the biggest breeders? This way you will get the biggest feeder fry, sooner.

I work in a lab and we maintain several different tanks that have convicts in them. Not a single one is over 4". In addition to that they breed by themselves, all the time. Just give them a big enough tank and let them pair off. I use the fry as feeder fish for other fish in the lab. Good luck

So... If you're feeding them, why not feed them at 4"? A little common sense goes a long way in seeing that a fish will reach 4" before 6"...

actually, that's a nice example of getting right to the point; simple genius . . .

and as I'm sure you are aware, common sense is not nearly common enough . . .

Thank you, lol. I really don't know why some people ask questions like this...
