Well I was wondering if anyone had ever bred swordtails or any other fish other then gold fish. I was thinking of doing swordtails cause they seemed to be the easiest to breed. Id be feeding an oscar and clown knife fish. Anyone any experience?

I wouldnt waste the time. Theres little to no nutritional value in swords or any other type fish like that, especially compared to a good pellet.

check the breeding forum there is many good write ups about breeding your own feeders in it.

I breed guppies for my fish, not for the nutritional value but I heard it more beneficial for the mental well being of the fish. I feed pellets as a primary source of food. Feeders maybe once a month.

ok, from the sounds of it Ill be keeping the pellets as the main food and the sword tails will be just for a snack every once in awhile. I think it would just be fun to have little baby fish for a little while lol. Im not even sure if my Oscar and Clown Knife will go after them right away...has anyone ever had an oscar that just doesnt go for other fish?

I breed swordtails and feed them to my O sometimes. They are very easy to breed, but you have to remove the fry when you see them. The parent swordtails will eat their young. Gold fish don't have any nutritional value and are fatty. Swordtails are good.

i wouldnt bother... it takes swordtails probably a good half a year to get to a size to make a dent in an oscar's tummy. by then you've invested time, space. water. heat, food and it's gone in like 5 seconds. you are better off just getting your fish on pellets and be done with it. no disease, wasting time and effort trying to breed swordtails to feed a fish with a stomache like a bottomless pit.
