Does anybody know if red-bellied pacus exhibit the same breeding technique as red-bellied piranhas?
I've bred piranhas many times and they are very careful about clearing the nest site, laying the eggs and defending the area. But what about pacus?
The only information about breeding Pacus that I have found after an exhaustive internet search is that they don't reach sexual maturity until the 3rd and 4th years, they lay eggs on some type of substrate, but leave the nest after they spawn.
However, here is my question:
Do Pacus careful clean a nest site and lay the eggs in one spot like piranhas, or do they just randomly throw them everywhere and then leave the site?
I would appreciate any information on this either from hobbyist experience, aquaculture experience or any other literature-based information.
